Help me move West Sacramento Forward!
My name is Duane Wilson and I’ve been a resident of West Sacramento for the last 18 years. I've raised a family, started several successful companies, volunteered, and stayed active in the community working on the boards of several non-profits like West Sac Play, Friends of Clarksburg Services & Recreation, and Founder Academy. West Sacramento has been an amazing place to live and it can only be better.
I am ready to jump in and do the work to help our town be the best place possible to live and grow a family. My unique experience growing start up businesses, and working with technology will help streamline city services and create a more inclusive city for future generations.
You can read more about some of my plans below. If you ever have any questions about me or my hopes for West Sacramento you can contact me directly through this website or on my cell.

Here are some of the things that are important to me. Have questions? Just ask
Roads, Micromobility Solutions, and #BroadbandForAll - Cable & DSL speeds and reliability are mediocre, and have only gotten worse during this health crisis. Not everyone is covered or can afford service. We can lead and create a new municipal fiber broadband service to provide service to everyone in our city.
We must work with our district to implement and orient our curriculum towards STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education with a focus on access to technology for all. Our children must be ready to graduate and choose their next path with all the benefits we can give them.
Too often our policies push our aging population into corporate nursing home facilities where they are at unnecessary risk of contracting disease, suffering from mental health issues, and lack of care. We must enact local policy and work with the state and federal government to ensure people have the resources they need to stay at home, or that hospice and managed care facilities can properly provide for them, and that care workers are paid a prevailing wage.
With unprecedented unemployment and challenges to getting our economy back online, the most at-risk members of our community must receive priority retraining for the new economy otherwise our homeless crisis will only become more severe.
The future is clean! West Sacramento can become a leader in clean tech, and implement a policy of urban planning and design to make the city more friendly to bikes & pedestrians, further cut greenhouse gases, reduce our carbon footprint, plant more trees and provide more shade to bring our city into the future.
We must build an economy for all. West Sac must work harder to bring in more small businesses, restaurants, and preserve our natural spaces. We can lead the region in BioTech, CleanTech, Agriculture and provide ways for underrepresented small business owners to thrive in our City. If we allow more "Big Box Stores" to come into our city we must require them to pay taxes, employ locals, and serve the community, not simply profit from it.
Developers must fund the services they need to sell their homes... That means parks, police, fire & schools.
The one time that tax breaks and offsets are acceptable in housing in our City is when we use our resources to enable the construction and development of housing for the at-risk, and homeless. We must take action to ensure that the ~30% of renters in our City do not face eviction during this national health crisis and make sure the owners do not face the same issues as the tenants.
It must be a priority to work with the county and state to ensure that all people are treated fairly in the justice system, rather than supporting mass incarceration we must enact policies that forgive offenders for past illegal actions that are now legal, move the burden of mental health from the Police, end cash-bail, and invest in those individuals who are most at-risk.
